We are currently recruiting for a Senior Practice Reviewer on a full-time, permanent basis to join the GQA Unit of ACCA's Monitoring department.  This is a home-based role for applicants based in Cyprus. 

As part of its Global Quality Assurance (GQA) programme, ACCA undertakes audit monitoring and AML monitoring of practising firms in Cyprus, on behalf of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC).   

Reporting to the Global Assurance Manager (who is based in London), you will undertake audit monitoring and AML monitoring visits to practising firms in Cyprus.

The job

On a day to day basis, you will be involved in the following:

  • Planning and performing audit monitoring and AML monitoring visits to practising firms in Cyprus in accordance with set targets and visit plans.  The audit monitoring visits will only entail inspection of audits of non-public interest entities
  • Providing advice and guidance to practitioners at the visits on how to rectify the deficiencies, and through presentations when requested
  • Preparing detailed reports after each monitoring visit, which should, together with the visit working papers, be subjected to the unit’s internal quality review procedures before the reports are issued to the firms for comments and action plans
  • Reviewing responses and action plans and where an action plan is not generally adequate or appropriate, require the firm to submit a revised plan after providing further guidance
  • Forwarding the reports together with the firms’ responses and action plans to ICPAC with appropriate comments
  • Undertaking internal quality reviews of monitoring visit working papers and reports prepared by other SPRs in the Unit
  • When required, assisting in the development and updating of the Unit’s procedures, quality controls and monitoring evaluation systems
  • When required, responding to enquiries from ICPAC on monitoring matters, and acting as liaison between ACCA and ICPAC by channelling enquiries to the Global Assurance Manager or Head of Monitoring where required

The job requires a significant amount of travel to the main towns and cities of Cyprus and very occasionally spending not more than a couple of nights away from home.  

The person

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACCA or equivalent)
  • Has significant, demonstrable experience in public practice at ‘manager level’
  • Has a sound grasp of the application of IAASB standards in the conduct of auditing alongside in-depth knowledge of professional standards and codes such as the International Financial Reporting Standards and IESBA Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants
  • Has sound knowledge of Cyprus anti-money laundering legislation, ICPAC’s AML directive, and their compliance requirements by practitioners
  • Has the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and external contacts including senior members of the profession in Cyprus
  • Has an organised, logical and methodical approach to work with excellent time management skills to deliver in accordance with the Unit’s key metrics
  • Is able to clearly, concisely and accurately write all forms of written communication including monitoring visit reports and letters
  • Is fluent in the English and Greek language
